Congregants were notified that they could honor their loved ones with personalized Yahrtzeits that would be displayed over Yom Kippur on Nanuet Hebrew Center`s Wall of Remembrance. We advertised in our monthly bulletin , with flyers, on weekly announcements and on face book pages. We printed labels with names of people being honored, the people sponsoring the Yartzeit candle and our club logo was on each label. The candles we lit (LED lights) and on display on the large glass frame windows in our lobby (about 140). We also added another 80 candles with names of children that perished in the Holocaust. Due to Covid, we wanted people to have the opportunity to see their sponsored candles from home, so we created a slide show of each family`s yartzeit candles with a recording of our cantor singing Keil Malei and posted that on Facebook and youtube. We got a tremendous response from the congregation for the slideshow and plan to continue doing that post Covid.
We charged $10 for 1 candle, $18 for 2 and an additional $5 for every other additional candle. Cost of supplies was very reasonable-$37.90 for 72 glass votive tea lights (x2 for a total of 75.80), flameless tea lights 100 for $32.50 (x 2 for a total of $65) and Frosted clear labels 250 for $18.17. We generated a little over $1000 with a cost of about $165. We expect repeat orders yearly and plan to save and re-use labeled candles. If an order is not repeated then we will remove the label to re use the glass votive. The display and video component was was very dramatic and these will be an institutional fundraiser for our club moving forwards.
