Mitzvah Day, on December 25, 2020, involved collecting and packing more than 2,000 Winter Care Packages for donation to clientele of soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and other social service agencies. The care packages included critical need items including toiletries, cold weather accessories (gloves, hats, scarves), and snacks. We partnered with The Jewish Volunteer Connection, which organized the event.
The Men's Club created winter care packages that went to the Weinberg House. Each bag contained about 15 items.

The Weinberg house is an emergency shelter for homeless men and women in Baltimore. It also provides meals, showers, convalescent care, case management, and classes. The goal is to help to obtain permanent housing for those individuals.

Self Assessment
Mitzvah Day was a huge success. The volunteers loved being able to help those less fortunate, as one said, "knowing that each hat or scarf made was going to help someone really pushed me to make even more.” In all, in a club of approximately 93 members, we had dozens of members and their families participating, making the bags and delivering them.
This event was very much a community event. Organized by the JVC, Mitzvah Day brought in Men's Club members, together with their families, and allowed them to give something back, making their community a little bit better for those less fortunate. The actions reflected well among the Men's Club, the JVC and the Jewish Community.
I would strongly encourage every club to participate in a Mitzvah Day project.
