A Can and Bottle Recycling Drive with monthly Jewish thematic promotion on our synagogue`s Facebook page and monthly bulletin.
We have an agreement with a local can and bottle recycling center. They accept cans and bottles from our congregants who identify that they want the money from their cans and bottles donated to Nanuet Hebrew Center Men`s Club. We promote this at every Men`s Club meeting and this past September we started updating our usual advertisement to be theme based with upcoming Jewish Holidays (depending on the time of year). We use information from the internet to find a Jewish article that connects with the current holiday with recycling. The recycling center mails us a check monthly. We typically receive between 5 and 25 dollars a month. To date we have collected over $200 for our club.

Self Assessment
This program demonstrates our club`s commitment to the broader issue of recycling and the environment. Our club has very few active members and this is easy enough and has a dual impact of fundraising for the club as well as the primary target of promoting recycling. By making our monthly advertising more Jewish Thematic based, we have added a Jewish dimension to recycling for our congregation and provided our club with some visibility.
Rather than just a bottle and can recycling program. This is clearly a Jewish Recycling program. The monthly thematic Jewish Holiday or Jewish themed articles have added an interesting dimension to it. The ease of doing this is what has made it innovative. Our Men`s Club is now known in our synogue as valuing recycling and we have plans to do a program about composting in the future. Recycling benefits the community at large.
This program is extremely easy to do and has added a small steady income stream to our club.
