Overcoming the challenge of running the Annual Brotherhood Deli Dinner and Man of the Year event during COVID-19 -- including (1) ordering individual family meals for pickup; (2) ordering and distributing the annual batch of Brotherhood brewed beer with food pickup; (3) running the zoom event (4) awarding gifts to the honoree.
Temple Emunah has an annual Brotherhood dinner and Man of the Year event. This year, because of COVID-19., we did it on Zoom. Our dinner is usually a deli dinner. We coordinated with Levine's Kosher Meat Market to order individual family orders including hor d'oeuvres. sandwiches, sides, and dessert for pick-up. One of our Brotherhood members set up an ordering form via Google docs that were automatically added to a summary spreadsheet to give to Levines. We also set up payment by check, PayPal or Venmo. Note: Todd Levine is from Temple Ner Tamid in Peabody. The Brotherhood also brews a batch of beer every year and distributes it at the event. This year when families picked up their deli the afternoon of the event, we also distributed the beer. At the event itself, we had our usual agenda and brought speakers to honor our Man of the Year from as far as New Mexico. We worked with the honoree's wife to deliver the gifts in advance. We also did a reheaesal Zoom before the event to make sure everyone's technology worked.

It was ironic that this year's honoree was chairman of the House Committee for 10 years and is still on the committee. But I digress. The results 108 attendees had deli dinners. We delivered beer to all of the families that requested it. 85 families attended the event (representing about 140 people). The event usually has 80-120 attendees at our in-person events. As far as the honoree was concerned, he was literally moved to tears.

Self Assessment
The event was an overwhelming success. We had about half of the B'hood membership attend as well as attendance by their families. It is the biggest social event of the Brotherhood annual and has become a family event too. In this COVID-19 world, it was a joy to have so many people celebrating together in a manner similar to our in-person events. We planned some time where people could just chat live, and also recommend using the chat to interact and also send messages to the honoree.
It is our Temple's way to honor our leaders. It is a big Brotherhood and community event. It also pulls together other Brotherhood activities, e.g. Beer Brewing.
After the event, we connected with another Synagogue in the Region that was planning a virtual MOY event, and we shared our best practices and learning
