Over the past two years, the Men’s Club at Congregation Tifereth Israel has created an activity list which is the envy of any social service organization. The leadership of the group has developed activities which service its members, the synagogue and the community. From poker nights and Men's Health to planting flags for deceased Jewish War Veterans on Memorial Day, the Tifereth Israel Men’s Club has been very busy over the past few years. We have members who have a wide range of interests and we have provided programming that meets those interests.

Over the past two years, the Tifereth Israel Men’s Club has made a concerted effort to increase the depth and breadth of our programming activities. The goals in May, 2011 were simple: increase the exposure of our Men’s Club, and increase service to our members, the synagogue and the community. The extent of our activities has allowed us to meet those goals.

We increased the services to our members even further by providing more activities – Race Walking, Dinner in the Sukkah, Pizza in the Hut, Father/Child Movie Night and Color Wars- and a diverse series of brunch series topics such as The Future of Schooling, Mens Fitness, and The Mortgage Crisis.

Part of the key for us has been to maintain our existing programming while adding these new activities. That allows us to service our existing members and to bring in new members who are exciting about our new programming.

The attached summary of events explains in detail what programming we have completed over the past 2 years.

Self Assessment
The impact of the depth and breadth of our programming has been amazing. The synagogue admistration comes to Men's Club when it needs to get things done. When the synagogue had a need for a new sukkah it came to Men's Club. When the synagogue is looking for programming for men with younger children they come to Mens Club. In addition, we saw our membership rise from approximately 100 members in the spring of 2011 to 200 members in the spring of 2013.
The diversity of our programming involves Jewish Men in Jewish Life and in their synagogue community. We have so much programming that Men of all ages become involved in synagogue activites, including sukkot and shabbat. Our overall programming addresses all of the FJMC Tagline.
We develop leaders through the programming. We use our extensive programming to get new members into Mens Club. Once they are in, then they take responsibility for an activity. Once you have each activity run by a different member then you have large group of people from whom to choose as future leaders. And the nice thing for us is that each Ex-President takes an activity or two as their own. That allows our newer members to focus on new programming instead of having to run our existing programming.
Many of our programs are innovative. For example, the flag planting at the cemetary, the flower planting at the synagogue, Quiz Night, Colors Wars, the speakers on Men's Health and the Mens Club participation in a Walking Race.
Finally, our activities build communities. We have always said that not every member is going to be interested in all of our programming. So we have developed programming to interest all of our members as well the general membership of the synagogue. We build community through Poker Night, walking races, building the sukkah, making latkes for Chanukah, our softball team and a variety of other activites. We serve our synagogue community through among other acitivities, serving visiting Kadima members, helping the funding for the purchase of a sukkah, providing liquor and wine for synagogue events, putting together a sukkah dinner, and ushering for events. And we serve the greater Columbus Jewish community by planting flags for Jewish War Veterans, Yom Hashoah Candles, and visiting Jewish prisoners at a local jail.
Our motto is to provide service to our club members, our synagogue and our community. Over the past 24 months, our Mens Club has had over 157 events. We strongly believe that once you see our complete list of activities you will see that we are deserving of the award for Best Overall Activities.
